BIGBANG is on my top 5 favourite Korean boy groups. I have been their fan since December 2016 when I stumbled upon their new music video "FXXK IT" (에라 모르겠다). I remember everyone being so hyped about their comeback and I honestly didn’t have any clue on why they were so popular.
When I listened to "FXXK IT" for the first time everything made sense. I immediately fell in love with the voice of the first person singing the song which I later found out it was Taeyang. The song got stuck in my head for days and so I decided to get to know more about the group. I started to memorise their names, listen to all their songs and watch funny videos of them on YouTube.
For those who don’t know much about this amazing boy group, I decided to write a bit of the history of the group, some interesting facts and some of my favourite songs from them.
History:
BIGBANG is formed by YG Entertainment. The group is made up of 5 amazing members: G-Dragon (leader of the group), T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri. Their official debut was on 19th of August 2006 at Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul.
The first single released by the group contained two songs: “We Belong Together” and “A Fool's Only Tears”. However, the song that marks the beginning of their success was “Lies”. This song topped the Melon Chart (South Korean online music store) for six weeks.
Throughout the years their popularity skyrocketed. Unfortunately, with fame also came some scandals which have consequently affected the group. Nonetheless, the group continued to work hard to show better music.
In 2017, T.O.P enlisted for his two-year military service. GD, Taeyang and Daesung enlisted this year and it is expected for Seungri to join them in 2018 as well. As a gift and a goodbye song for the fans of the group who are known as VIP’s, BIGBANG released the single “Flower Road”.
Interesting Facts:
✳ The group is praised for being involved in the production of their music and songwriting.
✳ The media calls BIGBANG “Kings of K-Pop” for their influence on the Hallyu Wave also known as Korean Wave.
✳ In 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2016, Forbes Korea ranked them as one of the most powerful celebrities in South Korea.
✳ They were the first Korean artists to enter Forbes' Celebrity 100 and the 30 under 30 list of most influential musicians in the world, in 2016 and 2017, respectively
BIGBANG won Best Worldwide Act at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards.
✳ MADE World Tour was the most attended tour headlined by a Korean act in history with 1.5 million fans.
✳ In 2016, BIGBANG had the third highest annual earnings ever for a boy band, behind only One Direction and Backstreet Boys.
✳ "Flower Road" set a record in China as it reached over a million sales in 3 days and 14 hours. This is the shortest amount of time for a Korean artist. The song also topped Billboard's World Digital Songs Chart and the Gaon Digital Chart.

I hope that now you’ve got to know a little bit more of BIGBANG. They are incredibly talented and I appreciate how they are still together after all these years. Although I’m sad that we won’t hear any new songs during these two years, I’ll keep listening to their old songs. I can’t wait for them to come back and take the world by storm again! Plus I hope they go on tour when they come back because Mariana and I want to see them live!
