Top 5: Favourite Korean Variety Shows

The first variety show I watched was Weekly Idol and since then I tried to look for other programs to watch. At the moment, Knowing Bros is my recent obsession. I have been binge watching some episodes and I have no regrets. Therefore, I decided to list five of my favourite variety shows.

Running Man
Running Man is a variety show that first aired in 2010. Yoo Jae-suk (main host), Haha, Ji Suk-jin, Kim Jong-kook, Lee Kwang-soo, Song Ji-hyo, Jeon So-min and Yang Se-chan are the current cast of the show. Running Man is not only popular in Korea but also in other countries around the world. In fact, due to its popularity, the show was even featured in the list of Business Insider's 20 TV Shows of 2016.

In this game show, the MCs and the guest have to compete against each other by completing missions in order to win the race.

Infinite Challenge
Infinite Challenge is a successful show also known as "the nation's variety show" and "Korea's real first variety" which aired in 2005. In this program, the guests have to complete silly and absurd challenges. Some of the segments are ‘Infinite company’, ‘Hidden Camera’, ‘Infinite News’, among others.

One of my favourite scenes from this show has to be the one with Hwang Kwanghee, GD and Taeyang. I burst out laughing when I watched it hahaha

 Knowing Bros
Knowing Bros is a JBTC variety show which aired in 2015. The cast is made up some popular faces such as Kim Hee-Chul, Min Kyung-hoon, Kang Ho-dong, Lee Soo-geun, Seo Jang-hoon and Lee Sang-min.

In this show, the cast act as students in a classroom and the guests act as the transferred students. There are two permanent segments in Knowing Bros. Firstly, is the ‘Entrance Application’ in which the transferred students have to choose which cast member they would like to sit with. The other segment is ‘Guess About Me’.  In this segment, the guests have to prepare some vague and private questions about themselves. Some other segments include Second Period, Lee Sang-min Time, Three No’s, among others.

Weekly Idol
Weekly Idol first aired in 2011 and it used to be hosted by Jeong Hyeong-don and Defconn, also known as "Doni" and "Coni". It’s shame they will no longer be on the show. I really liked them and I feel like the show will never be the same without them… MBC also decided to change the structure of the program which means that some segments might change in the future…
Usually, the idol groups would play games and promote their songs. Some of the popular games included Random Play Dance, X2 Speed Dance Challenge, Magic Choreography, Grill Idol and so many others.

Even though I’m really sad about the departure of the MCs, I guess we will have to wait and see what will happen.

The Return of Superman
The Return of Superman aired in 2013. In this variety show, celebrity dads have to take care of their kids for 48 hours while their wives take the opportunity to enjoy some time off. In some episodes, celebrity friends of the dads come by and interact with the kids.

It is a cute variety show that will make your heart melt and sometimes it will even make you laugh such as this scene hahahaha:

I highly recommend you watch this variety shows. You will definitely have a great time!
