A few months ago, I read a book called Dentro
do Segredo: Uma viagem na Coreia da Norte (Inside the secret: A trip
to North Korea). This book was written by a famous Portuguese author, José Luís Peixoto.
I normally read romance, adventure and
science fiction books. One day my History teacher recommended us to read Dentro
do Segredo(lit. Inside the Secret) and since I admire her so much I
thought “Why not give it a try?”. At the beginning, I was a little bit
apprehensive. I never read a travel book before so I did not know if I should
or not purchase it because I had so many other books that I wanted to read. Now that I have finished it, I do not regret buying it.
About the author:
José Luís Marques Peixoto was born in 4th September 1974. The acclaimed author has won a few awards and is the bestselling contempory novelists. Most of his books are novels. However, Dentro do Segredo is his first travel book which was quite a surprise.

About the book:
Briefly, this book describes the 15
days trip that José Luís Peixoto did in North Korea. He visits some iconics places and (I do not want to give spoilers, therefore, I
will not give a detailed explanation of the book’s content.) I found the book
really interesting because the author narrated the reality of a country that is
closed to rest of the world. I admit that there were some parts that to me were
just odd. It makes you wonder how in the 21st century there are
still countries so strict.
I highly recommend this book for
those who want to know a little bit more about the country that has one of the
most repressive dictatorships in the world. It is easy to read so you don't have to worry about complex vocabulary. Also, the book does not have many pages. In total, it has 240 pages. I know that some people don't like to read books that are very long.

Unfortunately, this book doesn’t have an English
version. However, Ninth Letter has serialised some excerpts
with pictures on their website. Click here to read.
Did you find this book interesting? What books are you currently reading?
I hope you have a lovely day! (:
