Hello dear readers!
This post theme is Football. I am a football fan, not like for example my father that knows almost everything about the topic, following the news daily in Sports channels on TV or on the internet, but a common fan that sees my favourite team games when it’s possible and that is very enthusiastic when the time of the Euro Cup and World Cup arrives.
With this said, my beloved team is Benfica. Sport Lisboa e Benfica is one of the big three teams of Portugal, playing in the premier league, the top flight of Portuguese football. Benfica is known for his symbolic Eagle and for his characteristic colour which is red and that is the equipment tone. The team's home ground has been the Estádio da Luz (Stadium of the Light) since 2003 and the club's official anthem is Ser Benfiquista. Benfica is honoured in three Portuguese Orders: those of Christ, of Merit and of Prince Henry. Furthermore, another team that I enjoy is Club Sports Marítimo, most known as Marítimo, a Madeira Island team. I constantly have the major hopes for them in the league.
Indeed, one of my dreams is to see a Benfica game live in the Stadium of the Light and met some of my favourite team players. As a matter of fact, I would also love to be present in a big Portugal game in a Euro or World Cup with my family and friends. I can imagine the emotion and the excitement!
Football season already started again this year, and with that, I managed to take some time to see a few games. By the time I had the idea to write this text, qualifications for the 2018 World Cup in Russia were happening and Portugal was also in action managing to qualify at the end.
Considering this, have you ever stop to think your reactions in the ninety minutes of a game? Talking about myself I go through a roller coaster of emotions:
First: the expectations, the high hopes of grandness before the game start.
The butterflies in the belly when hearing the first whistle.
The seconds before a glorious goal from our team: “GO! GO! GO! You can do it!”
The enthusiasm of the first goal.
The pride in the “BEST TEAM IN THE WORLD”. “A toast! My friends, today we stand the magnificence of our team! Long life to them!”
The fear and the nervousness when the rival team suddenly attacks: “Oh Dear God! NO! What are you doing defence?! Get the ball away from them!”
The breath holding when we see the ball entering in slow motion in our chamber.
The rage when the other team scores: “YOU IDIOTS! How could you let this happen!? I trusted you! Now fix your actions!”
The break.
The moment when you go too far with the swearing and others are not used to.
The sadness and disappointment in defeat: “I can’t believe this happened. I wished I had the last two hours of my life back.”
The “At least we didn’t lose” in a tie.
The full feeling of joy, pure happiness in the end of victory game, after much suffering: “YES! I ALWAYS knew! I never stopped trusting you! I love each and every one of you… except for that one, I don’t like him… BUT YOU ALL DID VERY WELL. I AM SO PROUD! A toast to Victory!”
- A little bonus here: my sisters watching a game (When they do). “When is this over? We want to watch TV…”
As a conclusion, if football is something that you are interested, a game of this sport is always a source of emotions: joy, sadness, frustration, anger, excitement, pride... your heart rate increases, the adrenaline goes up... Whether you see a game with your friends or family, or by yourself, this is something inevitable. This is the amazing thing about all sports actually. We can be a passionate fan, be supportive of our favourite teams and players but we have to remember that we must respect each other’s, even if we are competitive and take the games very seriously.
As a football fan, I have to say that I will never forget certain moments. For instance, when Portugal won the Euro Cup in 2016 (I loved that day! I watched all Portugal Games in the competition and get to that last game to see my country finally won was splendid) or when Benfica become a five-time Champion in Portugal in 2017, or even seeing Cristiano Ronaldo win The Ballon d'Or of best player in the World five times! I hope I have the opportunity to see a lot more!
Nb: I do not own any of these GIFs.
Do you like Football?
What is your favourite team?
And do you identify yourself with these reactions?
I hope you are having an epic week!
