The cast is composed with some popular faces such as the singer IU, the model and actor Lee Joon Gi, the EXO member Baekhyun, the actors Kang Ha Neul, Kim Ji Soo, Nam Joo Hyuk, the singer Seohyun, among others.

Review:
Let’s start with the storyline. I have only one word: tragic. In this drama, you meet seven handsome princes. All of them with different personalities and all of them fighting to become the King. Then, you meet the beautiful Hae Soo who tries to bring them all together and make sure they get along. In fact, her main purpose was to prevent Prince Wang So from killing his brothers in order to become the king.
I found the story interesting, intriguing and balanced in the sense that there were sad but also funny scenes. As I’m writing this, I’m remembering the one where Hae Soo and Wang Eun are fighting with each. It was actually a hilarious and cute fight.
Lee Jung Keun, in my opinion, did an exceptional performance as Wang So, the 4th Prince. In fact, he is one of my favourite characters along with Wang Eun. Even though, the 4th prince is portrayed as someone cold, scary and unfriendly. He is actually sweet, loyal and nice to those who treat him well. Wang So grew up using a mask to cover the scar on his face caused by his mother. He always felt as an outcast and at the end of the day, he just wanted to be accepted. I also loved his relationship with Hae Soo. It was a pure, honest and sweet love.
Hae Soo is the main female character in the drama. I would not say that she is one of the bravest female characters I have ever seen but I really like her innocence, kindness and hopefulness. She really did try her best to make the princes get along and the truth is that there were a few moments in which everything seemed to be fine. For a moment, there was no rivalry, no envy, no hate between them. Plus, the princes also started to get close to Hae Soo. I loved when they tried to protect her when she was forced to marry the king.

My second favourite was without any doubt Wang Eun, the 10th Prince. He brought so much light to the dark story. Just like Hae Soo, Wang Eun was also the definition of hope in my opinion. From all the princes, he seemed to be the most carefree, mischievous and playful character. When he died my heart broke into millions of pieces. I couldn’t even stop the tears from running down my face. After watching the heart-breaking scene of his death, I stopped watching the drama for two weeks and I even debated if I should continue watching the drama.
Kang Ha Neul and Hong Jong Hyun also did an incredible job portraying respectively the 8th Prince Wang Wook and the 3rd Prince Wang Yo. Wang Wook is the ambitious prince that wanted to become the king no matter what and Wang Yo was the biggest rival to Wang So not only because of the throne but also because of Hae Soo. There were times when these two characters frustrated me, but they were really necessary to spark a bit of chaos and drama in the story.
I also think that the remaining three princes: Baek Ah (13th Prince played by Nam Joo Hyuk), Wang Jung (14th Prince played by Kim Ji Soo) and Wang Won (9th Prince played by Yoon Sun Woo) were depicted really well. Baek Ah is a good-looking prince who is passionate about music and arts. Wang Jung is the youngest of the princes and an amazing fighter. He plays an important role towards the ending of the drama. Lastly, Wang Won is closest to the 3rd Prince Yo and always helps him in his pursuit of the throne.

I also have mention the incredible work that Z.Hera did in the drama. She portrayed a wonderful and strong woman called Park Soon Duk who fought in wars along with her father. I loved how her character ended this stigma that all women are weak.
In end, the 4th prince becomes the king. However, he ends up alone once again. After giving birth to a girl (4th prince is her father), Hae Soo dies and goes back to the present time. There, she visits a gallery and when she sees a portrait of the 4th prince she remembers him. She feels proud of the king not being remembered as bloody monarch anymore but at the same time she also cries and apologises for leaving him behind.
I felt that the ending was a bit rushed. A lot of things happened. I wished they could have had more time to better end the drama.
Before, I conclude this review I have to mention that the OST in this drama is amazing. I would not say that it is the best when comparing to other dramas like Goblin which completely nailed it but it’s still good and worth listening to. Here some of my favourite songs:
In conclusion, the drama depicts a story where it’s all or nothing. It’s about doing what it takes to become the King even if it means ending important and meaningful relationships. Not everything was perfect in this drama. A lot of people complained about the lack of direction of the story and some technical flaws, but I do think that it is worth to watch it. So, if you are interested in historical dramas and if you are a strong person who can handle sad endings then give it a go!
